Balloon Trends: The Life of the Party!!

Decorating with Balloons

Although seemingly simple as far as Party Decor goes, Balloons are still the ultimate “pièce de résistance“, for even the most extravagant party themes.  More and more often, I am seeing Party Planners  incorporating balloons into their designs to take their events to the Next Level.  Here are 3 of my favorite ways to decorate with balloons.

1.  The Ever Popular Balloon Back Drop:  From Birthday Parties to Weddings these Back Drops are Popping Up Everywhere… (Pun Intended).  I love how much versatility this affords.   You can use a variation of colors, go Ombre or even throw in some textured looks and patterns.

2.  Word/Letter/Symbol Balloons:  Right Now this is my favorite Balloon Trend.  Because well it’s CUSTOM.  You can personalize it with your name, the type of event, even your theme.  You can twist it and turn it to fit whatever you need.  It’s almost like a Monogram, your Personal Stamp.  And, One can never go wrong with a PERSONAL STAMP, in my humble opinion.

3.  Balloon Table Centerpieces:  Your Table Centerpiece should always bring THE DRAMA.  You can fashion and shape your balloons however you like, whether you shape them into flowers, use them to create a table wreath, or make them into  Hot Air Balloons. Your centerpiece should serve to transport your guests to somewhere fun and whimsical, and put them in the mood to PARTY. Currently, I am kind of obsessed with the Hot Air Balloons centerpieces.  They are so festive and can work at almost every event. They are more than likely going to be a big part of the next party that I throw.

Making A Dent In My Rolling To Do List Over Spring Break

rolling

Confession Time.  I live with a Rolling To Do List that is totally separate from my Daily To Do List, My Monthly To Do List, and My Quarterly To Do List, I’m not proud of this of course.   But, I call it rolling because it literally rolls from Month to Month.  In my defense, although it is a rather large list, it is made up a ton of small things and projects.  I am constantly seeing different things that I want to change or get done around the house.

So, I got the bright idea, since it was Spring Break and I wasn’t playing full time taxi driver, tutor and short order cook, that I would try to mark some of these items off of my list.  Always the over achiever, the things that I thought I could get done over the break vs. what I actually got done, well… lets just say there was a marked difference.

But, I did manage to make a dent in my list…

1.  I completed Our Family Photo Book for 2014.  (I’ve been working on this since January 1st, I’m kind of a perfectionist & literally tried to fit as many pics as I could on each page.)

2.  I printed out one of Our Own Printables, found here in Our Etsy Store and Framed it to go in the Master Bathroom. (So to answer a question many have asked, I do sometimes decorate with my own Stage Presents Stuff.)

3.  Completed the Teacher Appreciation Gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  Just one less things I will have to do next month.  I saw this EOS Lip Balm Spring Printable Idea on the TaterTotsandJello blog and knew I had to have it.  Click the Blog Name to go directly to the site.

4.  Greenery of some sort in my Kitchen Window is a must during the warmer months.  I have had the basil for a couple of weeks now, but wasn’t sure what to  put in the second pot, I eventually settled on some succulents.  I had some of these a while back, and didn’t do so well with them.  So we will see how they fare this go round.

6.  Lastly, my Pinterest Board is full of Cocktails and “Mock”tails that I always want to try, but never get a chance to.  My original thought was to make a Bellini with Orange Sherbet.  But, decided to try my hand at a “Mock”tail that I thought would work, and it was a Score.  It only called for two ingredients, Mango Sorbet and Welch’s Sparking White Grape Juice, which doubles as Non-Alcoholic Wine.  It was the perfect combination and a Good Idea for a Baby Shower, where you want a fab drink that is Alcohol Free.

Fun Friday – The Spring 2015 Mini Home Tour

springminiThis year I managed to get the house ready for Spring/Easter with a week to spare.  I am always happy when I see a plan come together.   Our Wreath from last year couldn’t be revived for another year, so I went with a simple Forsythia Wreath.  I enjoy seeing Yellow on the front door for this time of year.

I switched out the Framed Printable in the Foyer for this great ‘Nest” free printable found over on On Sutton Place.image1 (24)

The Idea for the Centerpiece was found on Pinterest.  Luckily, I had all the components needed here at home.  The flowers were from my wedding almost 6 years ago.  I have NEVER gotten so much use of of one item, EVER.  They have been all over my house.  Money well Spent.  The lantern was part of my Christmas Centerpiece, and the Yellow flowers, were taken from Last Year’s Spring Wreath.

The Formal Living Room is where the rest of Last Year’s Wreath came to live, I took the whole thing apart and used it to bring a little life to this room, since the Color Palette in here was very muted.

image2 (15)This little bistro table is set up in our Kitchen.  It is most often just used as the Mail Table.  But, when we entertain, it is the Dessert Table.  I used another Great Framed Free Printable here that I found on Tater Tots and Jello.

The last thing we changed was the Guest/Kid’s Bathroom.  I should mention that the weekend after all this change, we had Family stay with us for the weekend.  So, this was just an excuse to upgrade this space with this Great Shower Curtain, and a Plush New Mat(not pictured here.)

In case you are wondering why I called this the Mini Spring House Tour, it is because I didn’t hit every room in the house.  But, I was very pleased with the outcome and we are ready and waiting for the Pool to Open in the subdivision and for the Warm Weather to Come Pouring In.  Next Week is Spring Break here, so I will be off enjoying my little ones.  Hope you guys have a great one!!

Home Decor Trend: Adding Depth & Character With Maps

MapTrend

Photo Collage Sources: 1 2 3 4

With the economy on an upward swing came the re-introduction of Wanderlust.

wan·der·lust  ˈwändərˌləst/ noun – a strong desire to travel, and a love of all things travel related

And, the evidence of this is becoming more and more clear in the latest design trend of Decorating with Maps.  Decorating with Maps adds both depth and character to an otherwise blank canvas. Our cultures and traditions are often tied into Geography, where we grow up whether in the north, south, east or west coasts, urban, rustic, or suburban neighborhoods often shapes our varied tastes and preferences.  The things that bring us comfort and peace are often bits and pieces of home, no matter how far we travel.  We gravitate to the familiar.
The Choices are Limitless on how to use Maps, here are a few of my Favorite Places and Ways to Display Them in your home.

1.  Maps in a Child’s Room or Play Space:

I love seeing maps in a Kid’s Living Space.  I think it speaks to the vast possibilities that lay ahead in their lives.  They can go anywhere and be anything that they could possible conceive.  It’s almost like a subliminal message!!  I have seen Maps tied into the Dr. Seuss Theme – “Oh The Places You’ll Go.”  for nurseries, play rooms, and even for party themes.  Maps scream Endless Adventure!!

2.  Maps in a Dining Room or Family Living Area:

Often Maps used in a common living space are used as a means to connect you to the past.  I often see it in homes of older people  or transplanted families who want to bring a piece of the home land into their current space.   It often serves as a reminder of the Culture and Tradition that is still with them, even if they have transplanted to different parts of the world.  Nostalgic Memorabilia

3.  Maps that Tell A Story:

Wedding locations or even maps that document where you met your significant other are becoming very popular.  If you have moved around a lot or had multiple homes over the course of your relationship, these maps hold a meaning that maybe not every one else will understand but between the two of you, or even just your immediate family.  They speak volumes.

Where to Find Maps:

These days most Home Decor Stores carry Maps, for the most part all of the Maps that I have seen have been framed.  But, if you want to be a little adventurous Antique Stores offer some great Vintage Options, and a one of a kind look.  Then there is always the option the to go Digital.  Digital Maps give you more options, regarding size and layout.  Check out some of the Maps we have available in Our Etsy Store.

Interesting-Facts-300x300

Did you know that many Vintage World Maps have hidden text, as well as hidden pictures that are not visible to the Naked Eye?  Viewing some of these maps with a telescope or under different lighting can be quite the experience.  We found maps that even had some risque pics on it.  So, if you are looking to display maps in a space that has a PG Audience, be sure to check for Hidden Treasure.

Do you use Maps to decorate your home?  What has been your favorite landing place and the meaning behind the maps you used?

Trend Alert – Over-sized Letters and a Quick DIY!!

oversized

For as far back as when my youngest daughter, (now 4) was born, I think I have been obsessed with typography and lettering and the custom/personalized feel  that it brings to Home Decor.  Over the last couple of years, I think that I have become enamored with over-sized letters specifically.  And… so the hunt began.  Of course I would see them EVERYWHERE.  But, the catch is always the same, either they don’t have the letters that I am looking for, I can’t find the size I need, or the price is astronomical. (Or at least as far as this Momma is concerned)

So… I was at my 2nd Favorite Fabric Store….. you guessed it,  Joann’s Fabric on a totally unrelated quest, when I ran smack dab into these HUGE Cardboard Letters, which of course were going to come home with me.

IMG_0228

Admittedly, I had no idea what was next, because as much as I was stalking all the Over-sized Letter pins  on Pinterest.  My intention was to buy them and not to turn it into a DIY Project.  Naturally, you would think the next step would have been to look up directions.  But, NOPE.   I decided to go home and see what I already had in my Craft Closet (also known, as the JUNK CLOSET).  SCORE!!

I sprayed the letters with Krylon Short Cuts Hobby Craft Paint.  And, to be honest, I loved that look and could have just left it at that.  It had a leathery rustic look.  But, since the A was actually an addition to my dh’s office decor.  It had to tie into the Chalkboard Walls, that are soon to come.

What do you think?? I like it Brown.

I know that there should be a picture of the final step with the Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Chalk Board Paint.  But, I had to download all my pics from my iPhone to make room for the iOS 8 upgrade.

Here is the completed project!! As you can see it hasn’t made it to its intended home yet, because Hubby’s Office is still a work in progress.  All in all, the whole project probably cost me no more than $7.00.

Who can be mad at that??  Have you decorated any spaces in your home with Lettering?  What was your favorite project?  I’d love to hear about it!!
